Relocation

Have you ever dreamed of temporarily relocating to another part of the country or world?

Neither John nor I have ever left this part of North Carolina. We were born and raised here, went to college here and still live here. Both of our families are here. It's safe, secure and familiar. Life is easy.

I'd be lying if I said we didn't dream from time to time about temporarily relocating to another country in the Caribbean. We watch House Hunters International and fantasize about a life far away from everything we've ever known. With our trip inching ever closer, we've started talking about living in another country again.

Where, you might ask?

Personally, I'm drawn to the Bahamas. We go to church with several people who are originally from the Bahamas, and it just seems like a nice place to live. It's close to the US, and the primary religion is Christianity (okay, and lots of people believe in voo-doo too). The Bahamas do not require quarantine for relocated pets, and that's always a plus. Furthermore, RDU has started offering direct flights! John could find a job in finance, and I could find something in the legal industry.

It's so fun to think about a life in the islands. It would be completely different! While there are a lot of awesome aspects to making a big move, I do think it could be very isolating. We would leave our families, friends and familiarity of our surroundings. Our families would definitely have to get Skype accounts so we can stay in touch with our parents and watch our nieces and nephews grow up.

They'd also need to get comfortable with flying!

I know the islands will remain a big part of our lives. Who knows if we'll ever actually move there, but it's always fun to dream.
