Our first date - June 16, 2006
This photo was taken on the night that I realized I had met the man I was going to marry and spend the rest of my life with. I was 22; he was 20. I was a full-time working professional. He was an frat boy in college who had just finished his Sophomore year. I was going to bed at 10pm; he was opening the doors at the frat house for a party. We couldn't have been living more different lives.
My family was skeptical. His family was too. We had both just recently gotten out of other relationships. It was a whirlwind summer. We spent a lot of time together in town, by the pool, at the lake and at the beach. We spent hours on the phone - sometimes 4-5 hours at a time. We both knew there was something special between us. Neither of us had ever found someone we were so compatible with.
Life happens, as it usually does, and our relationship came and went - several times. We worked through all of the kinks. It wasn't always easy, but anything worth having is worth fighting for. We married four years, one month and one day after our first date. Our life now is exactly how we envisioned it would be at this point.
Looking back, I wouldn't change a thing. Our journey wasn't typical, but I don't regret one minute of it.
What's your story? Are you happy with the choices you've made in life? What would you change if you could go back and do it all over again?
