15 Week Bumpdate

It's so hard to believe that we're almost halfway through this pregnancy. Just another month or so till we reach that milestone. Overall, it's been a great experience. I was fortunate that anti-nausea meds were available to me and worked, or I really don't know how I would have made it through the first trimester. Now that we're in the second trimester honeymoon, things are zipping along, and I couldn't be happier!

Early Saturday morning, we got a call from Babies R Us that our furniture was ready for pick up. We were so excited, and we started relocating the office to the bonus room. John's sister and her husband came up that afternoon to help us pick up the furniture and move it into the house. We weren't sure if it was all going to fit in their suburban, but we made it work (after taking the crib OUT of the box!). We were so thankful for their help and to be able to spend some quality time with them.

How Far Along: 15 weeks 2 days
Size of baby: About the size of an orange
Total Weight Gain: 2 pounds
Maternity Clothes: Yes!! I might never go back to non-maternity clothes. Stretchy pants forever!!!
Gender: We'll find out for sure on March 31 - less than three weeks away!
Movement: Not yet
Sleep: Still sleeping really well!
Symptoms: Been anti-nausea medication-free for a week now, and it's been going pretty well. Still get a little queasy in the morning, but it's nothing a little dry cereal won't cure. Otherwise, no symptoms, really - just feeling good!
What I miss: A margarita would be really nice every now and then.
Cravings: Anything salty and Mexican food
Best Moment this week: We started working on the nursery after picking up the furniture last weekend!
What I am looking forward to: March 31 to find out if we're having a boy or girl!

Let's Get It Started!

At 14 weeks yesterday, we ordered our nursery furniture last night! While it may seem super early to some people, we couldn't pass up a good sale and free shipping. We went with the Baby Cache Montana Collection at Babies R Us. It's exactly what we were looking for! We just got the crib and shorter dresser.

Once we get the furniture in the room, I'll decide whether I want a changing table or just a changing pad on top of the dresser. Does anyone have recommendations based on experience? The dresser is wide enough for the changing pad and area for diapers, wipes, etc. to sit on top next to the pad.

The only other large item we have is a hand-me-down from a friend. It's the Fisher Price Snugapuppy Swing. It's been sitting in the nursery for several weeks, and it reminds me that we're going to have a baby in less than six months every time I see it!

My energy has really made a comeback in the past week, and I am proud to say that I've been Zofran-free since last weekend! I am taking the last of my Diclegis tonight and praying for the best. It's so nice to be feeling good again. It's also nice to start doing a little shopping and making some big decisions for the next few months. We are getting more excited as the weeks go by.

Our next appointment is March 17, and that should just be a check-in. The big appointment is March 31 when we find out if our butter bean is a boy or a girl!

I've felt a little conflicted lately about how much I should share online about my pregnancy journey. There are so many women in my life who have or who are still struggling with infertility, and I never want to make them feel like I am pouring salt in the wound. While this is an exciting time in our lives, I also want to make sure that we keep a level of privacy in our family as we grow. Posts may not come quite as often as I thought before, so thanks for keeping up with us whenever we decide to share!

In other news, I spent the day with Mom on Saturday shopping for more maternity clothes and looking at all kinds of things in Babies R Us. To be honest, it wasn't until recently that baby stuff didn't completely freak me out. We had the best time wandering around to look at this or that, and I think I've even decided on nursery furniture!!

Boy or girl, we'll go with navy, white and either kelly green or light pink for the colors. I'm not planning to do a theme right now - just keep it simple. The bedrooms in our house aren't huge, so I want to get a crib, dresser, changing table and rocker. I think that'll be plenty to fill it up without being crowded.

It feels so good to finally be 100% excited about this pregnancy. I was so guarded and afraid of getting too emotionally invested until we had our 12 week appointment. Now that we know everything is going along perfectly, we are both SO excited!! It's hard to believe we're already a third of the way through this pregnancy.

Come on, late summer!

Maternity Shopping and...Nesting?

Happy Week 11! No photo or update. Things aren't very different from last week.

Weeks 5-10 were pretty brutal as far as nausea and exhaustion were concerned. Between feeling like I was going to be sick, being hungry or just dog-tired, I didn't feel like doing a whole lot of anything but sitting on the couch. The weekends passed by, and nothing got done around the house. Conversations didn't happen, budgets weren't finalized - nothing.

Mid-week 10, things starting turning around! The nausea still hung around, but it wasn't anything a little Zofran couldn't fix. My energy started coming back, and it was time to start getting stuff done. This HAD to include shopping for some maternity clothes. My pants for work were just way too tight, especially by the end of the day.

John and I ventured out to Target, Old Navy and Motherhood Maternity on Saturday morning. Target appeared to be between seasons on their selection. It was very limited and picked over. Old Navy was a disaster. I just can't stand that place, regardless of the prices. If I get anything from that store, it'll have to be ordered. The Old Navy at Triangle Town Center had jumbled up clothes on the floor from the front of the store to the back. We pretty much walked in and walked back out.

Then, the Motherhood store. Thank you, God!!! Not only did they have a huge selection and lots of stuff on sale, they had PETITES!! Y'all, I had more luck shopping for maternity clothes than I do shopping for regular clothes! Everything fit perfectly and nothing has to be hemmed. I am one happy girl!! Maternity pants, by the way, are the best thing in the whole entire world. It felt so good to let this thing hang out instead of sucking it in all the time!! I ended up with two pairs of pants, three shirts and two more pairs of pants on the way that I ordered last week. We should be good to go for a little while.

Now that we're pregnant, we have decided to stay in our current house for a few more years. We haven't done a whole lot of updating or decorating inside over the past almost four years because we always anticipated moving soon. Since we're staying, we have a short list of updates that we got started on this weekend!

We were able to find a beautiful rug to put under the kitchen table in the breakfast nook. We needed an 8x10, and those can be hard to find in a regular store, but we had great luck. It looks so pretty and really finishes off the room. Next up, we started picking the pre-fab hardwood floors and new carpet for the master bedroom. Thanks to some folks "in the biz," we'll be able to order the hardwoods at cost once our final decision is made. John and his Dad will install them in the spring. Then, we'll get another rug for the living room - probably a 9x12 or 10x12 (WOAH!), and a runner for the hallway. We'll have the pros install the carpet in the bedroom.

Once that is done, we should know if we're having a boy or a girl and can start focusing on the nursery. I have a few ideas but nothing too concrete just yet.

That pretty much sums up our weekend. One more week till the "magic" 12 week mark and we get to hear our little peanut's heartbeat again!!

10 Weeks (a few days late)

I swore I wouldn't do these things, but here I go...

Pregnancy Highlights:

How Far Along: 10 weeks
Size of baby: A little over one inch, weighs less than one quarter of an ounce
Total Weight Gain: -2 pounds
Maternity Clothes: Ordered two pairs of work appropriate pants this week. Am so much more comfortable in dresses and pajama pants, so it's time to start wearing some maternity pants too!
Gender: Too soon to tell
Movement: Not yet
Sleep: I've been sleeping on the couch this week since John has been sick, and I've slept surprisingly well. Between the Diclegis, Breathe Right strip on my nose, sleep machine and warm puppy dog, I'm sleeping like a baby!!
Symptoms: Nausea if I don't take my meds, otherwise, I'm good to go!
What I miss: Not having to take medicine to feel well, my morning Mt. Dew. That's really about it. Once this nausea phase passes, I think I'll be a REALLY happy pregnant lady!
Cravings: Anything salty, Chickfila lemonade, pickles (yes, it's true!)
Best Moment this week: Feeling my belly itch, knowing that it's because there's a baby growing inside making it stretch out!
What I am looking forward to: Our 12 week appointment on February 17 when we hear the baby's heartbeat again!

It Happened...

I had been warned that the day would come when someone would say something completely inappropriate to me about my pregnancy. After four weeks of not having this pleasure, it happened...

Me:   Just wanted to come by to let you know that I'm going to be a Mama!
Her:  Oh, how far along are you?
Me:   10 weeks today!
Her:  You better watch who you tell. I lost two babies at 12 weeks.

Me:   You may have heard by now that I'm pregnant. We're due September 1!
Her:   How exciting! Did it take you very long?
Me:    No, just a couple of months, actually.
Her:   Well that's just great. It took me 10 years!

Her:   Are you going to find out the sex of the baby?
Me:    Yes, neither one of us want to be surprised.
Her:   Oh, come on! You shouldn't find out. I hope that baby's legs are shut tight when you go in to find out!

Being just a teensy bit hormonal, it took a lot to bite my tongue. Maybe I should just go ahead and brace myself for even more comments as we get further along into the pregnancy.
